Legislation Updates:
In January‚ I introduced a resolution to celebrate Korean American Day on the Senate Floor. By officially recognizing Korean American Day on January 13th we are making it clear we embrace and honor the diverse heritages that make California unique. Here is the video from the Senate Floor‚ click here.
“I am honored to present my Senate Resolution (SCR 6) to celebrate the 122nd anniversary of Korean American immigration to the United States. California is home to one of the largest Korean populations in the country and they have enriched our cultural fabric‚ contributed to the innovation of our industries‚ and fostered stronger relations between the U.S. and Korea.”
As your representative‚ I am committed to advancing policies that directly impact our community‚ strengthen our state‚ and provide solutions to the challenges we face. Below‚ I’d like to share an overview of several bills that I authored currently under consideration in the Senate‚ which aim to address crucial issues‚ from wildfire prevention and emergency relief to improving education and strengthening our economy.
To Address Wildfires in California
Senate Bill 269 re: Home Hardening Tax Credit. This bill would provide tax credits to homeowners who upgrade their properties to protect against natural disasters. This is an essential step to ensure our homes and communities are more resilient as we face increasingly frequent extreme weather events.
Senate Bill 268 re: State of Emergency Tax Exemption. The last thing victims of natural disasters should worry about is their financial burden. SB 268 introduces a tax exemption on settlements during a state of emergency‚ providing relief to those who need it most as they recover and rebuild.
Education
Senate Bill 267 re: Teacher School Supply Tax Credit. Teachers often use their own money to purchase supplies for their classrooms. SB 267 would provide a tax credit for teachers who spend their personal funds to support their students in classrooms.
Senate Bill 529 re: Higher Education Savings State Tax Deduction. SB 529 offers families the ability to take advantage of a state tax deduction when saving for higher education. This makes planning for a child’s education more accessible and helps families invest in their children’s future.
Tax Credits for Security
Senate Bill 665 re: Retail Theft Security Tax Credit. Retail theft continues to be a concern for businesses and consumers alike. SB 665 introduces a tax credit to help retailers and small businesses invest in security measures‚ which will deter theft and protect their businesses‚ employees and customers.
Senate Bill 666 re: Home Security Tax Credit. In response to growing concerns about home invasion and burglaries‚ SB 666 would provide a tax credit to homeowners who invest in home security systems. This would encourage Californians to invest in safety measures that are proven to protect families and neighborhoods.
Elections Integrity
Senate Bill 405 re: Restoration of Local Control for Voter Identification. This bill aims to restore local control over voter ID requirements‚ giving counties the flexibility to make decisions that best serve their communities while still ensuring secure and fair elections.
Senate Bill 406 re: Ballots by Election Day. This bill would require that all ballots are counted by Election Day‚ eliminating unnecessary delays in the election results. This would help ensure a more efficient and transparent process and reaffirm the integrity of our elections.
Senate Bill 408 re: Improved County Voter Roll Address Confirmation. This bill focuses on improving the accuracy of voter rolls by ensuring counties verify and confirm voter addresses‚ making sure only eligible voters are participating. This increases the transparency and trust in our electoral system.
Good Governance
SCA 2 re: Prohibit Governor Pardons for Family. Finally‚ this Senate Constitutional Amendment proposes to prohibit governors from granting pardons to their own family members‚ ensuring a fair and transparent pardon process. This measure works to preserve the integrity of our justice system by avoiding potential conflicts of interest.
Additional bills can be found on my website.
