The California State Senate today joined Senator Steven Choi, Ph.D., in supporting SR 49, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Korean War. This resolution remembers the over 36,000 American’s and millions of Korean soldiers and civilians who died during the war.
“On this solemn anniversary, we recommit ourselves to the cause of peace, the pursuit of reunification, and the duty to remember,” said Senator Choi. “We will continue to honor our veterans, educate future generations, and work toward a future in which no Korean child grows up in the shadow of war.”
On June 25th, 1950, Korea was thrust into a conflict which quickly escalated into a war that would claim millions of lives, leave cities in ruins, and divide a nation. Seventy-five years later, the Republic of Korea is a vibrant democracy with a strong economy, and a member of the global community.
“As a Korean American, I also extend my gratitude to the United States and the 21 other nations who stood with us in this international conflict under the United Nations flag.” Senator Choi said. “The sacrifices of these international partners will always be cherished.”
We remember. We honor. And we will never forget.
