Senator Choi Recognizes Suzie Suh as 2026 Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Honoree

Senator Steven Choi, Ph.D. (R–Irvine) recognized Suzie Suh on the California State Senate Floor as his 2026 Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month honoree in celebration of her trailblazing journalism career and longstanding service to the Los Angeles and Orange County communities.

Suzie Suh serves as anchor for CBSLA’s evening broadcasts on KCAL9 and made history as the first Korean American primetime news anchor in Los Angeles. Born in South Korea and raised in Orange County, Suh has spent decades covering stories that matter to families across the region while remaining deeply engaged in community service and mentorship.

“Suzie Suh has broken barriers in broadcast journalism while serving as a trusted voice for communities across Southern California,” said Senator Choi. “As a fellow Korean American and Orange County resident, I am proud to recognize her accomplishments and leadership and appreciate her commitment to uplifting others through journalism and community engagement.”

To mark the occasion, Senator Choi coauthored Senate Resolution 97, recognizing May 2026 as Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.

In addition to her work in journalism, Suh supports numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Dragon Kim Foundation, the Children’s Advocacy Center, the Koreatown Youth and Community Center, and Safe Passage Heals.

“As an immigrant and proud Korean American, this recognition is deeply meaningful to me,” said Suzie Suh. “I am grateful to Senator Choi for this honor and proud to celebrate the contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities throughout California.”

Suh was joined by her mother, husband, and two children to witness the occasion. Photos can be found here.
