Senate Bill 1242, authored by Senator Steven Choi, Ph.D. (R-Irvine), cleared the Assembly Appropriations Committee’s Suspense File today and will advance to the Assembly Floor for consideration.
SB 1242 would strengthen the implementation of California’s Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment Court program, commonly known as CARE Court, to better support individuals with severe mental illness and the families seeking help for them.
“Families should not have to navigate unnecessary barriers when seeking lifesaving treatment and support for a loved one suffering from severe mental illness,” said Senator Choi. “SB 1242 would help CARE Court operate more effectively and fulfill its promise of connecting vulnerable Californians with the care they need. I am grateful that this important measure has cleared the Suspense File and will now advance to the Assembly Floor.”
Bills placed on the Assembly Appropriations Suspense File are reviewed for their potential fiscal impact before being released for consideration by the full Assembly. If approved by the Assembly, SB 1242 will be sent back to the Senate before going to the Governor for consideration.
