Beyond the Speech: The Reality of Newsom’s California

As Governor Gavin Newsom prepares to deliver his State of the State address this morning, Senator Steven Choi, Ph.D. (R-Irvine) is calling attention to the governor’s record of mismanagement, broken promises, and policies that have contributed to California’s declining quality of life.

“California families are struggling under the highest cost of living in the nation, while small businesses are paying the price for Governor Newsom’s failed leadership,” said Senator Choi. “Instead of responsibly managing state resources, his administration has piled debt and regulatory burdens onto job creators, while opportunities disappear, and quality of life continues to decline. The governor’s State of the State will likely gloss over these realities, but Californians deserve the full truth.”

To help Californians connect the dots between the governor’s policies and the challenges facing the state, Senator Choi highlighted some of the most significant failures and reversals of the Newsom administration, including:

“Californians are increasingly recognizing the connection between one-party rule and the steady erosion of their quality of life,” Senator Choi said. “Families and small businesses are struggling, costs are soaring, and opportunities are vanishing. The policies coming out of the governor’s office are the root cause—and Californians are demanding accountability.”
